A Character Developed by the Word of God
To him who strikes you on the cheek, offer to him the other; and to him who takes away your robe, do not refuse your shirt also. (Luke 6:29)
When we have the Presence of Yahweh in our lives and when we always make acknowledgement of His continual blessings, living our lives according to His Instruction and continually in the habit of study of the same, we receive guidance from the Spirit of holiness, and we are thus able to develop kindness and gentleness in our hearts and in all of our actions toward our brothers, sisters and toward people in the world.
When we do not render evil for evil this can also be an indication that the Living Word of God has developed our very character traits and the manner in which we interact with others. In this we have the spirit of peace which every genuine follow of Messiah should be exhibiting in their daily lives.
As believers in the Messiah Yeshua, we would never be vengeful toward someone who took a wrongful action toward us. We have the instruction of the Teacher himself who plainly stated to his disciples. To him who strikes you on the cheek, offer to him the other; and to him who takes away your robe, do not refuse your shirt also. (Luke 6:29, Lamsa)
If someone wrongs us, instead of being quick to judge or to avenge ourselves, we should be quick to recall the words of our Teacher recorded in the Bible at Matthew 6:15, namely, that if we do not forgive men their wrongdoing or offenses, neither will the Father forgive us for the offenses we have brought against Him or His Instruction. For you, O Yahweh, are good, and ready to forgive. (Psalm 86:5)
May each of us always be grateful for the Presence and Instruction of the Lord Yahweh in our lives and may our actions towards others always be of peace and generosity, following the example set forth by our Teacher Yeshua.
